The destinations with the highest vegetarian share
We rank by share of vegetarian-tagged food items rather than raw count, because a six-item menu and a fifteen-item menu should not compete on volume. Israel and Switzerland lead at 100% of their indexed food items, but each menu holds only six entries, so read that as a clean small menu rather than a national verdict. Albania follows with 5 of 6.

The map: vegetarian dishes by destination
The index tags 481 of 868 food items vegetarian, or 55% of the food catalogue. That is a high share by restaurant-menu standards, and it reflects how the index is built: bakery counters and vegetable-led plates are indexed alongside grilled and braised dishes. Use the map to find where the vegetarian entries are concentrated.

Darker tiles carry more vegetarian dishes. Every tile links to that destination's food guide.
The deepest vegetarian menus, not just the highest share
Share flatters small menus. If you want the destinations with the most vegetarian entries to choose from, the order changes: Israel (6), Switzerland (6), Slovakia (5), Albania (5), Bulgaria (5) and Egypt (5). A country with four vegetarian dishes out of seven is more useful on the ground than one with two out of two.

| East Asia | 5 | 46 | 19 | 41% |
The regional spread is narrower than the country table suggests. Every region indexes vegetarian food, because every region has bread, pastry, vegetable or grain dishes in the catalogue. The difference is how much of the menu is built around them.
Reading the vegetarian tag honestly
A vegetarian tag describes the indexed recipe, not a certified kitchen. Fish sauce, anchovy stock, lard, shared fryers and hidden meat stocks are common in dishes that look plant-based. If the distinction matters to you, ask about stock and cooking fat before ordering, and treat the tag as a starting shortlist rather than a promise.
Use the vegetarian food guide across 120 destinations for the full tagged list, then open the country guides below for bakery, coffee and the dishes that did not make the vegetarian cut.
Where to start

Vegetarian map: common questions
How many vegetarian dishes does TasteBridge index?
481 of the 868 food items in the index carry a vegetarian tag. The tag covers dishes and bakery items; drinks are tagged separately, so a plain coffee or fruit juice is not counted here.
Which destination has the highest vegetarian share?
Israel and Switzerland both sit at 100% of their indexed food items, with 6 and 6 entries respectively. Their menus are small, so the share is clean but the choice is limited. Albania follows at 83%.
Does a vegetarian tag mean vegan?
No. The tag says the indexed recipe contains no meat or fish. Dairy, eggs, honey, fish sauce, anchovy stock, lard and shared fryers are all still possible, so ask the kitchen if you need a strict answer.
Can I filter the index for vegetarian food?
Yes. Open the <a href="/dietary/vegetarian-food/">vegetarian food guide</a> for every tagged item, or use the <a href="/food/">Food Finder</a> to choose a destination and shortlist dishes by price and diet.
